Barker then turned his attention to his fellow author J.K. Rowling, who has had her fair share of controversy over the last few years over her opinions on the transgender community. “There’s a lot of pain amongst the transgender people that I know,” Barker stated. “They have a lot of issues in the world as it is, without a famous author opining on the subject. It just seems redundant. It just seems unkind.”
Noting Rowling’s vast financial success, Barker felt that Rowling’s newfound position of fame ought to exclude her from discussing trans rights. He added, “It really just seems redundant for a woman as successful, as validated in the world, as Ms Rowling, to be negative, to be disruptive if you will, to a very beaten up subculture. These are human beings. She has no right to opine, I think, upon the lives of human beings that she does not know.”
“I feel very protective of people who are on the edge of our culture as gay people still are,” Barker continued. “And certainly transgender people are on the edge of our culture. And here you have one of the most successful people in the frigging world – Ms Rowling. Going after a very emotionally vulnerable portion of our culture. It just seems unnecessary and unfair.”

reasons new pickup trucks suck:
- the beds are at best no bigger, and often smaller, than older models
- heavier = less efficient
- higher bumpers make them less compatible with most other vehicles, therefore more dangerous in a collision
- higher tailgates make them harder to load
- higher hoods give them an enormous blindspot in the front
- higher center of gravity makes them less stable
- higher seats give the driver a worse view of their immediate surroundings
- higher bumpers also make them more likely to collide with a pedestrian’s chest as opposed to their legs, as well as making the victims more likely to go under the car, leading to more deaths
oh also market research suggests people who buy trucks and SUVs are more likely to be assholes lmao

Pog as slang comes from the twitch emote, taken from a video with pogs in them. What is a pog? A small cap from a juice drink that is traded and used in games by 90s kids. The juice drink was called POG, short for passion fruit orange guava. Passion fruit was named after its flower, the passion flower. Passion flowers were called “flower of the five wounds” in Portuguese, eventually being translated as passion fruit by the English in reference to the passion of Jesus, aka his last moments alive before being crucified.

An important update from my brother (and Awesome Coffee Club cofounder) Hank Green.
Thanks for all the kind words, wishes, thoughts, and prayers. This sucks, but Hodgkin’s lymphoma is very treatable provided that those living with it can access good care. Hank is getting great care and has a deep support network, but even so: This is really hard.
The last few weeks have made me admire Hank more than ever, and I’ve been his biggest fan for a long time. It’s a rough road. But I am comforted to know that he will be loved and accompanied through it.
